June Will Be UFC's Best Month Of The Year

UFC 300 was an amazing card and lived up to the hype. UFC 300 was also a vampire that became strong by sucking the lifeblood out of the nearby events. I don’t see a ton of fights outside of UFC 301 that are that exciting, and even that is kind of thin. UFC 300 did give back a little bit though, when Dana white announced after the event who the headliners for two new numbered cards would be.

Let’s get into this lineup we now have for June so far.

UFC 302: Makhachev vs Poirier

June 1st, New Jersey

I have officially declared June 1st national Jump The Gilly day and the official start of Gilly SZN. This will be the day Islam seals his fate.

Islam has said Dustin Poirier is not deserving of a title shot, and made it sound like basically he’s only getting a shot because everyone else in the division is busy. In the past, he has also basically said Poirier’s BJJ black belt isn’t legit. Islam continues to cement himself as one of the sports best heels.

What everyone is deeming as Dustin’s last shot at gold.. what would be a better fairytale than setting these wrongs right, while simultaneously getting a little revenge on Khabib in the process?

Bolstering this card is an awesome co-main of Strickland vs Costa. Better breakdown coming as we get closer, but what a slobberknocker that should be.

UFC Fight Night: Whittaker vs Chimaev

June 22nd, Saudi Arabia

On a casual Saturday afternoon at about 5pm or so (EDT, 2pm PST), when you flip on cable and go to ABC.. you won’t find golf, or college sports. You will find a cage fight, live in the heart of Saudi Arabia with two of the most entertaining and exciting fighters in the UFC.

Khamzat seemingly has been unable to fight, for whatever reason, in certain locations where the UFC has been hosted. It is time for him to finally make his return, where he will be put to the test againts no other than Rob Whittaker.

Both coming of win and Khamzat still being undefeated, this is sure to be a number one contender type of match for middleweight. UFC wanted to bring the heat for the Saudis, and they didn’t mess around.

UFC 303: McGregor vs Chandler

June 29th, Las Vegas

Return of the Mack! At this point, the return of “Iron” Mike as well. The storylines for this fight are endless - the two have been entangled together for what feels like two years now. Let me do a quick timeline

Summer 2021: McGregor breaks leg in the Dustin Poirier trilogy fight and undergoes surgery

Fall 2021/Spring 2022: We meet jacked Conor that we knew would definitely have issues with USADA

Spring 2023: Conor and Chandler do The Ultimate Fighter TV show

Crickets for a long time…

Fall 2023: Conor teases Christmas return🎅, presumably at UFC 296

New Years: Conor reveals fight with Chandler will be on June 29th at middleweight.. while he swirls wine.

Crickets, crickets…

April 2024: Dana officially announces fight at the post UFC 300 press conference .

Laced in between all this, Conor calls out 16 other fighters including Manny Pacquiao, punches the Bulls mascot, and makes a movie with Jake Gyllenhaal.

Meanwhile, Chandler has just been in the gym every day patiently waiting.. to “do what he’s told” I can assume. It looks like it was the right move, because it’s officially time to break out the red panties. To cap off a great month and headline(?) international fight week, fight fans get a long awaited treat.

So in May, enjoy some Saturday nights out with your significant other, the boys, or whatever you’re into. If you have no friends or relationships, there’s a decent UFC 301 card and a Derrick Lewis fight night to hold you over. Either way, come June? Saturday nights are for fighting.

I don’t want to end a cagefighting blog with Elton John.. so lets try something a little more manly. Take it away Conor!
